Part of the Kansai Region, Shiga Prefecture (滋賀県, Shiga-ken) is located east of Kyoto. The prefectural capital is Otsu. Shiga Prefecture fully encloses Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake. Another attraction is Hikone with its feudal castle.
